Outcast the game we are all waiting for is
nearly complete!
I've seen this game in action and it looks great! Take my word for it this game is the game of 99!
The main engine uses VOXELS (volume elements), you are probably thinking this is bad after the awful graphics of NO RESPECT, but his game looks REALLY good. They help speed as they dont take a lot of time proccesing themselfs like polygons do, they also dont need a 3D card to look good or move fast, in fact they cant use a 3D card, so all you non-3D card owners will be cheering. The minimum requirements are looking to be around a P166 with optional MMX(but I reckon it will run OK on a P133(I hope anyway)).
The animation is some of the smoothest ever and when you swim there are ripples on the surface that actually look realistic! The charactures in the game are driven by the world around them, say you killed their buddy they will run from you until you do something nice to them. The game code is complete and is undergoing playtesting so lets just wait for a while and hope it doesent take too long. Simcity 3000
Ever dreamed of being god? Well now you can in the 3rd simcity installment! This game kicks serious ass, dropping the original 3D world idea and going for the conventional 2D sprite-fest we're all used to this game incorperates all of simcity 2000's ideas and actually improves on them while adding even more! If you've ever played sc2000 you'll know that it is a great game and most sane people loved it. But we grow weary of the same 'built every thing put down arcologies nothing left to do' syndrome, well no need to be now because sc3000 fixes this by offering 4x the original building area leaving plenty of room for development. With the incusion of an architects kit this game is so replayable you'll never put it down. The disasters are better than ever, when a fire starts it doesnt go around demolishing entire city's like in sc2000 which was very unrealistic, now the fire starts in one room of a building and moves on from there eventually engulfing the entire building if you dont put it out. There is a more personal feel to with visible traffic not your ants marching stuff this time! No, its proper cars,vans, fire trucks etc. giving it a more personal feel. This game is a serious contender for best game of '99 so maybe you'll buy it.
Alpha Centauri.
You may have this game and if you do then great, if you dont on the other hand you must buy it. It doesnt exactly push the hardware on your pc to the limits, but it offers great gameplay. Any one who fell in love with Civ2 wil do it again with this, the controls are almost exaclty the same and the graphics are familier(with a slight 3d tinge) There is a massive range of unit types(which you can fully automate) or you can design your own, for example last night I designed one of the most powerfull units ever seen but it cost a fortune so I scrapped it.
